In Light ReliefSonia Heap, Sandra Wrightson, Fiona Tabart and Jon Williamson. Friday 22 August - Sunday 27 September 2009In Light Relief presents the work of four Tasmanian artists and combines jewellery, sculpture, graphic art and costume design. Sonia Heap, Fiona Tabart, Jon Williamson and Sandy Wrightson share a darker vision of natural forms that suggest art nouveau and gothic influences. Despite the diversity of mediums, the structures, patterns and motifs used link all the work and suggests that nature isn't necessarily the benign force we imagine but can also have a surreal mysterious side. Maggie Diaz – Into The LightThursday 2 July - Sunday 9 August'Maggie Diaz - Into the Light' was a touring retrospective exhibition of the American born photographer Maggie Diaz, curated by Gwendolen De Lacy, a friend and admirer of the past twenty five years. Into the Light was not only a celebration of Diaz's photographic career, spanning more than fifty years, but gave an insight into her particularly humane portrayal of the social backdrop of 1950's Chicago and of Melbourne, Victoria, between the 1960's and 1990's. |

Paul Zika: Home and Away - reconstructing artificeThursday 26 March 2009 - Sunday 3 May 2009Following periods of travel to key European architectural sites, each characterised by highly embellished decor and ornament, Paul Zika has returned to Hobart to construct complex painted structures. The work is concerned with a radical fusion of surface and form, in stark contrast to Modernist notions of decoration as embellishment. View the Exhibition Catalogue |
