Community - Cultural - Major Event and Festivals Grants

Applications for grants for the 2009/2010 programs closed on 19 May 2009. 

The Council provides grants through its Community, Cultural and Events and Festivals Programs.  Details of the respective grant streams are provided below.  The grants are determined on an annual basis, normally prior to the commencement of the financial year in which the events or activities are to occur.

Community grants

This program provides financial assistance for community groups and organisations to develop projects or events, or specific elements of ongoing programs that aim to build community through fostering opportunities for access and participation, and responding to community issues and concerns.

In previous years, cash grants between $100 and $5,000 have been approved under the program, with an average of $2,304 per grant paid in 2009/2010.

Cultural grants

This program provides financial assistance for:

  • Community cultural development projects:  Projects which involve artists and communities in the creation, direction and/or management of a project.
  • Arts projects:  including visual art, craft and design, literature, new-media and the performing arts.

In previous years, cash grants between $250 and $10,000 have been approved under the program, with an average of $2,818 per grant paid in 2009/2010.

Events and Festivals

This program provides assistance for events and festivals to be staged in Hobart.  Details of the economic benefits to Hobart in supporting the event or festival are sought as part of the application process.  Major grants may be subject to a separate sponsorship contract.

In previous years, cash grants between $420 and $15,000  have been approved under the program, with an average of $2,995 per grant paid in 2009/2010.

Eligibility

All applicants must be financially viable groups.  Projects and events are to meet eligibility guidelines and are assessed against criteria outlined in the grant guidelines.  In general terms, assistance will not be provided for individuals, capital works, rates remissions or for national conferences or seminars.

Timing

The grant application period normally runs from mid April to late May each year. The grant applications for the 2009/2010 year have now been assessed.
