Parking Meters

In addition to the voucher machines in Salamanca Place, the Council controls on-street parking spaces in and around the city centre using multi bay and single head parking meters.

Parking meters operate Monday to Saturday from 8.30am – 6.00pm and Sunday 9.00am – 4.00pm.

Times of operation are displayed on all meters. Please note: there may be other restrictions (for example bus zone / clearway / loading zone etc) which operate during and outside these hours.

Not all meters operate on Saturdays and Sundays, only those close to the city centre and retail shops.

If you are unsure if the parking meters are operating please check the information on the meter and on the street signage. These indicate the hours of operation and the parking time limits that may apply.

Maps have been produced to highlight the areas where the meters operate. Please be aware that other parking restrictions may apply both within and outside these areas. These areas are in close proximity to the CBD.  Click on the links below to view these maps.

Parking fees are displayed on the parking meters and voucher machines. It is essential to use good coins. The use of bent/foreign coins may result in not obtaining the correct time or voucher.

Correct parking within the space will help you and other drivers to move in and out of spaces as easily as possible.

Please note that the time limit displayed on the parking sign indicates the maximum time that you can stay on a meter/voucher area.  Staying longer than the time displayed can result in an over-parking infringement being issued.

Parking Meter Fees & Charges

How to use single head parking meters

The above meters accept 10c, 20c and $1 coins.  When you park in the street the meter that you need to set running is the meter located (observing any time restrictions) at the front of the vehicle, providing that you are parked facing the right way (park with the direction of the traffic).  If you have a trailer attached to your vehicle and its takes up two spaces you only need to set one meter running (front meter at the start of your vehicle). Remember if the meter you have parked on is for 1 hour this is the maximum time you are allowed to park on this meter.  You may be issued with an over parking ticket if you continue to feed the meter without moving from the space.

How to use multi-bay parking meters

  1. Note the parking bay (space) that you have parked your car in as marked on the footpath adjacent to your vehicle and proceed to the meter in the direction indicated by the arrow on the footpath.
  2. Enter your parking bay number into the machine (these are normally in the range of 1 to 10).  For double digit bay numbers you are required to enter the digits on the key pad that represents the bay number, eg. 1 + 0 = Bay 10.
  3. Please ensure that after inserting your Bay number that this number is displayed on the screen.
  4. Insert coin(s) (will accept 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2 coins, no voucher will be issued).
  5. Ensure you do not exceed the amount of time that you have paid to park for on the meter.
  6. Ensure you do not exceed the time limit as displayed on the parking sign or the meter.

NOTE: Before parking your car please check all parking signs to ensure that you are not in breach of the parking zone regulation.

You may be issued with a parking infringement ticket if you continue to feed coins into the meter so that your vehicle is parked for longer than the time limit allowed or the meter has expired.
