Draft Waterworks Quarry Landscape Plan

The Hobart City Council has considered a draft Waterworks Quarry Landscape Plan and resolved that the draft plan be made available for community comment. 

The community is invited to attend a public information display:

Where:  The Waterworks Quarry, 53 Waterworks Road Dynnyrne
When:    10.30am to 12.30pm, Saturday 5 September 2009

Based on community feedback to date, two options have been developed and can be downloaded here:

Option 1 - Informal recreation and landscaping
This option provides for an open space play area, picnic benches, parking, vehicle barriers and landscaping.

Option 2 - BMX pump track and Landscaping
Attachment: What is a Pump Track?
In addition to picnic benches, parking, vehicle barriers and landscaping, Option 2 provides for active recreation in the form of a pump track (a short circular trail, designed as a loop or series of joined loops ridden by both BMX and mountain bike riders).

Draft Cornelian Bay Traffic and Foreshore Park Landscape Development Plan - Public Consultation

The Council has considered a Draft Cornelian Bay Traffic and Foreshore Park Landscape Development Plan and resolved that the draft Plan be made available for community comment.

The draft Plan involves extensive upgrading along the entire area from the Boat Sheds to the road leading to the point including:

• Major upgrading of car parks
• Establishing a walking track along the foreshore
• New BBQ facilities and shelters
• A new playground for children
• On road cycleway development
• Traffic calming
• Significant landscaping works
• Interpretive signage
• Facilities for the dog exercise area

The period for accepting submissions and comments has now closed.  Council officers are currently compiling a report on feedback received, which will be presented to the Council in the coming months.

 

Battery Point Foreshore Access - Public Consultation

The Hobart City Council conducted a community consultation program during March, April and May 2009 to determine community views on options of improved public access to the Battery Point foreshore.

The consultation was conducted by Corporate Communications (Tas) P/L on behalf of the Council and their report on the results of the consultation is available here.

At its meeting of the 27 July 2009, the Council considered the results and resolved:

"That:

  1. The Council note the results of the Battery Point foreshore community consultation process.
  2. A summary of the results of the community consultation be published on the Council's website.
  3. The Lord Mayor be requested to write to the Minister for Primary Industries and Water regarding the results of the community consultation and seeking the State Government's view on providing improved public access to the Battery Point foreshore in light of the Council's consultation process; and take any further appropriate action.
  4. A report be prepared on a possible route for improved public access to the Battery Point foreshore including the proportion of the route owned by the Council; and the report also include design options and preliminary costings for the provision of a three metre wide walkway/bicycle way to be undertaken in three stages."
