Following extensive consultation, the City of Hobart now has a Recreation Management Plan to guide future development of sport and recreation in the City.
The development of the Plan included many meetings of sports groups, Government departments, schools, clubs and recreational organisations. Consultants were also engaged to undertake a demographic study of the city and discussed the trends in sport and recreation participation.
With funding support from Sport and Recreation Tasmania, the Council organised a special team to develop strategies for the future. At the present time 21 strategies have been included in the final Report with some initial strategies presently being implemented by Parks and Customer Services, and Community Development Divisions.
The New Plan contains several key strategies that will assist existing clubs and encourage sport and recreation participation across the city. A fundamental part of the new Plan will ensure there are appropriate linkages for the strategic use of key Council facilities and venues.
