For schools, there are two ways to enter the awards, either by conducting an environmental project or by entering the art competition.

Schools are encouraged to incorporate the project into their curriculum.
Any project that has contributed to the health of our environment can be entered. Projects can range from wates and recycling, energy, water, building design, alternative transport, landscaping and Paper and Purchasing. If your school is unsure which theme to choose for 2009, the topic of sustainable living is encouraged.
The project does not necessarily have to have a direct physical benefit to the environment. It could, for example, be the collection and collation of data that could aid further research that would in turn benefit the environment.
It is asked that the following questions are answered within your project entry:
Projects will be assessed on the strengths of the responses to these criteria.
Attach any supporting documentation such as photographs, videos, posters, displays, artworks, audio tapes, diagrams or newspaper articles.

The winning school will receive a certificate and a cheque for $1500. The runner up will receive a certificate and a cheque for $750.

This year, the winner of the art competition will have their design produced as a fridge magnet that will be distributed to Hobart residents and schools.
The theme of the competition for 2009 is Sustaining your local neighbourhood. Students are asked to design a message to assist people to understand sustainable living practices.
Artwork is required to be submitted to the size of 200mm x 200mm. Large, bold and simple designs work best. The design needs to be easily read when scaled down.
The winning school will receive a certificate and a cheque for $500.
Closing date for all submissions is 25 September 2009.
