Water Basketball

What is Water Basketball?

Water Basketball is a sport developed by The Hobart Aquatic Centre.   It involves two teams of 6 players, who pass the ball down the pool to their goal end, which is a hoop similar to basketball.

Each player wears flippers (and a cap to identify which team they are playing for.) Goals are scored as one or two points depending how far from the goals you are.

Do I need my own equipment to play?

No you don't. Flippers, caps and balls are supplied free of charge on the evening.

Who can play?

Adults - male or female (young or old!)

Is it like water polo?

Yes and no. Similar as you pass the ball around the pool, but it is non- contact.

Do you have to be a good swimmer?

If you can swim the length of the dive pool then you should be fine to play.

Rosters:

Games are held on most Thursday nights between 6:45pm and 9:30pm and seasons typically run for 10 weeks. The current roster runs through until December 2009.

An Introductory evening is typically held at the start of a new season but players can join any time during a season.

Do I have to field a full team?

No. Individuals and teams can both sign up for a roster. If you don't have a full team we can easily add you to an existing team.

Can I come and play a game before joining up in a Team?

Yes. Tuesday nights at 7:30pm we have a practice night to develop skills, so this is a great night to come and see if you like the game.
